Islamabad: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) has announced a Gaza Solidarity March in Islamabad today to express support for the oppressed people of Gaza facing Israeli aggression. In response, the federal government has taken strict security measures, sealing off the Red Zone and the expanded Red Zone areas of the capital.
According to reports, the government has decided to deal firmly with the march participants. Protesters or those inciting unrest will be arrested immediately, with cases to be registered under the Peaceful Assembly and Public Order Acts. Additional police forces have been deployed, including reinforcements summoned from other provinces.
In a related development, JI Deputy Emir Liaqat Baloch held a telephonic conversation with Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry. The discussion focused on the planned Gaza Solidarity March in Islamabad.
Liaqat Baloch asserted that the march would be peaceful and stressed that the government had no right to stop people from showing solidarity with Palestinians. He urged the authorities not to tarnish the country's image by creating hurdles for a peaceful cause. He also warned against turning the capital into a "no-go area" for such demonstrations.
Baloch hailed Kuwait’s recent announcement of severing ties with Israel, calling it a true reflection of the sentiments of the Muslim Ummah.
